Plexidor is sweet!Feb 27, 2011
By CJ 4450 We have owned a plexidor (2 actually) for about 5 years (the large door version). We have gone through many different brands and this is the best buy far. Granted it is pretty expensive, but you will save money in the long run (in both durability and energy costs).
The doors are actually double-pane... almost like a window. We just bought another one for our new house.
I would never consider a regular "flap" dog door again.

Excellent DoorDec 02, 2006
By girlygirl Finally, a dog door that keeps in the heat and keeps out the cold. I love it. It is a remarkable improvement over the near-worthless PetSafe door I had previously, which warped, tore, fell apart and was like having an open window all year round. This new door is really expensive compared to other brands, but it is worth every penny. I hired a professional contractor to install it and it took him less than two hours (he removed the back door to install the dog door into it, and then replaced the back door on its hinges.) I wish I had bought this door four years ago back when my German Shepherd was a little fuzzball.
UPDATE: My dog has been using this door for 13 months. It took about 5 minutes and 4 pieces of cheese to train her to use it. This door still keeps out the cold. I would buy this door again in a minute.

Nice but my dogs hate it.Aug 06, 2006
By S. Scott Its a really nice doggy door but both my boys hate it. I have an english mastiff and a chihuahua. They have had a doggy door all their lives but for some reason this one is a little hard for them. First, the door has slots on the bottom and the top for the locks that are nice but not good for dogs that can get their nails stuck in there. I placed tape over the slot at the bottom but my big dog pulled it off. My big boy tries to open the doors opposite ways when coming in or out. Then he cant get in and becomes extremely frustrated. My small guy keeps getting his paws stuck in between the 2 doors and then freaks out. He has also gotten his nail into the lock slot. My husband and I have spent a lot of time and food trying to get them to use it but they and us are become more and more annoyed and frustrated.
Its a great door otherwise, if you can get your dog to use it and can find something to permenately fill in the locking slot. We are sending ours back, it comes with a 90 day return policy. They really should redesign the door with the locks on the sides. I hate giving it a 2 but 3 seems too good with our situation. 2.5 is a better representation for me.

My six dachshunds love this doorOct 07, 2004
By Pancho Cole My 6 dachshunds have not been able to break this door, they run through this door to chase squirrels and greet humans all the time. The only repair I have ever done was to replace the weather stripping after 5 years of use, it froze to the frame during an ice storm and tore, I called the factory and they sold me a replacement weather stripping kit (the weather stripping fits into channels on the door, and is fairly easy to replace)

Still working after 20 yearsJan 23, 2011
By James G. Wheeler We installed our door in 1991 and I estimate our dogs have used it something like 100,000 times. The door closing springs are beginning to show their age, and we've had to replace the weatherstripping a time or two, but overall we've found the Plexidor a very solid product that's well worth the price.
