5Does the jobOct 13, 2008
By Elizabeth A. Galloway
I bought this for two purposes. The main one was to block the 81" opening from my kitchen into my dining room and second was as a pen to take with me when I go camping. The best feature of this pen is the fact that I can position it in numerous ways. As a barrier, I can position it in a "T" and have a section that I can swing open and close (it's two panels back to back); plus the base of the "T" acts as an anchor so the fence doesn't fall over. Of course a larger dog (my dog weighs 6 lbs.) would be able to knock it over, but I can place a chair on the weak side of the fence to prevent this. Haven't used it camping yet but I like the fact that it is completely portable (with a handle) so that I can cart it easily.

5a must have!Apr 05, 2010

first time with a small puppy (pomeranian)and someone recommended an ex-pen to help with potty training. after checking out the different ones and reading lots of reviews, i went with this one. and let me tell you, i was NOT disappointed. nice size for the puppy AND to close up and take with you to hotels etc. love the fact it has a door so if he wants to go in and out we can let him. looks nice~ for a pen in your house. very good product for the value.

4Very FunctionalAug 22, 2010
By J. Vilches
Overall, I really like this exercise pen with just a couple of minor quibbles.

Pros:

Folds up very neatly, latches together securely, and is easily carried with the handle.
Having the door makes it a lot easier to manage going in and out.
Well constructed, and the black wire looks as good as it can.

Cons:

The three gate drop latches are difficult to line up. I can usually only get all three to drop in after fussing with it a while.
The way to separate the panels to make a long line instead of a circle was not immediately obvious, and the skimpy instructions were no help.

The bottom line - would I buy another? Yes

5Holds up to my 50lb and 115lb dogs!Mar 23, 2011

I'm using the gate as a barrier between our kitching/dining area and our living area. We've got one of those open design concept houses and the opening between the kitching/dining area and our living area is about 8 feet. I certainly wasn't going to try using some form of a door gate, the opening is too large. I got this super tall version because my 50lb dog is very athletic and she would've tried to jump over the smaller versions of this. So we installed some hooks on the one side of the opening, and threaded the long pin which holds the pen closed through those hooks to keep the gate tightly attached to the one wall. Against the other wall, we took the extra panels, folded them up against the wall, and stuck a small ottoman next to the wall to keep the gate up. Having the walk-thru door is perfect because we can keep the gate up all the time and use the door to go in and out. I haven't tried it as an enclosed pen, but it works great as a bigger "door gate" for our large opening.

4Start them young or this may not workJan 29, 2011

We have used this exercise pen daily and it has served us well. However, it is not a perfect product.
A. Pros
Well-built and strong.
Door stays closed if you latch it completely (there are three catches for the latch, and sometimes you only hit one or two).
Easy to walk in because it is open on top, not just a portal door.
Shape can change
2. Cons
Needs to be tied down to stay in place.
Latch takes two hands sometimes to catch on all three spots.
bottom wire lays flat on ground so if dog has an accident, it gets on the bottom of the pen (would prefer it to stand on feet so less surface in contact with the floor)
3. Advice
Don't get this if your dog is already a young adult and hasn't been contained in a similar sort of pen. Here's why: We got this before our pup arrived so she has grown up believing the walls keep her in. So, even though she is now strong enough and tall enough to jump it or knock it over, she doesn't. I am pretty sure, if we got this for her as an adult, it would not contain her.
If you have guinea pigs (as I do also), this sort of thing would work well on grass, although you don't need walls this tall to contain them... maybe to keep other creatures out.
I hope this review has helped you.
