5Puppy LoveApr 02, 2008
By Allison Wilkins "ToBmoonlight"
My dog(s) LOVE this car seat. I have one (large-12 pound) Chihuahua and one (tiny-10 pound) Boston Terrier. They both love being able to see out of the windows, and when you run the seatbelt in the back seat like you would a child's car seat, I have no issue with the legs being un-sturdy. My chihuahua even sat in this seat for 4 days as my husband and I moved across the country from NV to VA. In fact, if I take the seats out of the car for whatever reason, they will both lay on top of the seat and beg to go for a ride. My only qualm is with the water/food dish. It doesn't easily attach to anything. But I see no purpose in it, so I recycled it.

3Going BackFeb 28, 2009

I ordered this for my dog to travel to NJ. She wants to stand the whole way and needs to be secured. The straps do not allow her to stand, they forced her to sit. And when we had to quickly hit the brakes, the carrier did stay in place, but the straps came loose and she flew out of the bed while still partially attached. it scared me. The bowl is a good idea, but it doesn't actually fit as they show it and it doesn't secure. So that part is actually worthless. My dog is part Pomeranian, sorta tall and only weighs 14 lbs. For a smaller dog, this might be fine, but definitely not for a dog over 10 lbs. I would actually say more for a miniature dog. Shipping was great and quick and so far the return seems easy, with them providing the return tag.

2Poor materials good concept.Jan 23, 2009

This dog car seat has a good overall design concept. The harness allows enough give for your pet to move comfortably while seated. The storage in the base seems logical (but not easy to actually access). Removable seat pad makes it easy to clean, but not always secure. The snack tray is a great idea, but isn't a really great placement. I loved that it was a hard surface, and seems to offer security when using the seat belt.

Unfortunately, my car seat was cracked at the base when I bought it. I realized this when I was trying to secure the seat belt. My dog seemed to be fine sitting on it when I tested it at the store. Apparently, if you drop this car seat, it will probably crack after the first drop. It's probably still usable cracked or broken, but for the price I think the materials could be sturdier. Thicker plastic, like the kind you find used for children's plastic seats would have been a much better alternative. I wonder if a child's booster seat might work better?

If you're sure you'll never drop this seat by accident, then maybe it's an okay seat because of it's design. But the materials are very very poor.

1It's a Piece! Save Your Money!Jul 13, 2007

Where do I begin?! First of all the little happy dog on the ad for this product must have been sedated. The "cool" extended legs literally a flop. They are very unstrudy! Also the "convenient" food and water bowel didn't easily attach. Last, but not least the the side straps are confusing to assemble to my pet's harness. I had to email the company to get better instructions, because the info that came with the product was so vague.

3Good but has "issues"Jul 11, 2009
By Shannon Kelly
I bought this dog car seat over a year ago. It gets used frequently, as much as 5-6 times a week when we take our mini-dachshund out in the car.

The seat is an equal mix of good and bad. The good is that my dog will eagerly jump into it and seems quite comfortable when there as she can see out the windows or lie down (she's small - weighs 10 pounds). So for that it's good.

Unfortunately there are several issues.
1) The pad slides around as it is not anchored to the seat in any way. When Poppy jumps into it, the pad slides and ends up crumpled into the back of the unit. I then have to lift her out and smooth the pad out. Today I bought some velcro which I will stick to the pad and the seat itself. I hope this solves the sliding issue.

2) The legs will collapse when in the extended position. It seems they do not lock into place as much as they should, with one side or the other collasping and the whole thing ends up on an angle dumping poor Poppy out. To rectify this we have placed a board underneath that spans the two legs, stopping them from collapsing most of the time.

3) The little pad with the travelin' dog logo that covers the sides of the unit, slips down ending up crumpled around the bottom pad. Although the side pad has snaps to stay in place, there are not enough of them. When the side pad slides down, it makes accessing the underneath part difficult as the material is now in the way of the underneath lid and you have to fight with it to lift up the lid. No fix for this.

3) We never use the little dish that came with it because it is kept underneath and it too awkward to get at. In any case the dish doesn't attach easily to the seat itself.

4) The straps don't lock into place - so if Poppy moves around at all, the straps graduually get loose. So you must periodically re-tighten the straps.

So far The Travelin' dog seat is the best small dog seat I've seen. It definately requires some refinement but it works well enough that I bought another as a gift.
