really handy, just not big enough for the hand!Mar 16, 2009

This is my second leash of this model; my first one wore out after 7 years (inner spring failed). My sole complaint about this model is that it is a bit too small to fit my hand in comfortably all the time, and I have small hands. In the winter, I can only get a couple of fingers through when wearing any gloves. Nevertheless, for walking my 16-lb. Peke at the same time as my 60-lb. Chow Chow, it's ideal. It gives room for each dog to keep its own pace, but doesn't let my Peke get so far away that I can't rein him in when he gets too feisty with other dogs. The tape is far less likely to burn skin (cord Flexis have scarred me more than once, and more often they belong to others!) and if the mechanism on the last one failed after 7 years of 3-4 walks/day, then I'd say it held up well.

Best retractable leashAug 08, 2011
By C. Chase I have a 60 lb lab, who is a puller and has gone through about 5 leashes in 3 years. Her last leash was the medium Flexi retractable leash, which should be good for a dog up to 77 lbs. Other retractable leashes similar to the medium flexi snapped after only a few months of use. We used the flexi leash for well over a year before it started to fray slightly on the side. It is still very sturdy and we likely have months of use left in it (if not more), but I've gone ahead and replaced it with the large version for dogs up to 110 lbs. I would suggest going up a size if you have a dog closer to the upper end of the weight limit who is a puller, but still recommend this leash over any other leash we've tried.

Flexi All Belt LeashNov 18, 2011
By Kay Herber Love this product! So much better than the cord type flexi leashes that always seem to tangle up and are much harder to untangle than the belt type.

Love itOct 19, 2011

About 3/4 the size of the old one we had (for a 75# dog). The old one had tape only for the first few feet, then cord. I liked the old one, yet this one is so much better--lighter, retracts smoothly and quietly. Got it for our new 50# rescue pup, and the only trouble is with it being fairly small, as other reviewers mentioned it is barely big enough for my hands. Love it anyway!
Misc. notes: made in Germany; the "warning" graphics in the instruction booklet are priceless!

I have a wild, hyper active pupApr 08, 2012

Some background info about my pup: She tugs and pulls everywhere we go. It's like she doesn't even recognize me at the other end of the leash while at home she listens to everything I say. Sometimes she likes to make my life harder when she hops 4-5 ft instead of walking. She is a 45 lb labrador/hunting hound mix. When she sees squirrels, she gets into hunting position with her body low against the ground and walks like a lion about to catch its prey. She goes from an angle where the squirrel cannot see her. When she is 5 ft from the squirrel she will make such a prounce that it feels like my arm has been almost ripped out if I'm not careful. I still love her though.
About the Product: This leash has done the job for casual walks. I will NEVER EVER EVER use any kind of retractable leash if I know we will be in an area where I want her to be close, controlled and safe next to me. I just don't trust my pup too far away on a thin leash like this (even if it is all belted) with her hyperactivity and strength. Any moving object will make her go crazy and she can EASILY snap a leash like this especially if she is 16 ft out since I have less control the farther she is. I use it only on night walks when I know there are not many squirrels or distracting things outside. She has her freedom to walk a little bit more on the grass and go to the bathroom. Other than that, for her exercise I will take her to a dog park, baseball field or by the waterfront near me on a sturdy 6 ft leash where I run along with her.
I would recommend retractable leashes for small dogs (yorkies, chihuahuas, malteses, etc.) I would not recommend retractable leashes for hyper dogs (of any size really other than toy size) or large dogs especially if it's somewhere risky or not safe. This leash is great for casual walks where you want your dog to have some bit of freedom.
